Is it a Bug – Vanishing Tweet count August 14, 2009

I got up to a very rude shock today, my tweet count which was at 4,000 something was down to 400 something. Just couldn’t understand what happened and why? Went to help section also went to Twitter account on GetSatisfaction and posted a tweet on the same, having done all that I remain unsatisfied.
Now, it is very likely that it is a bug – it is also likely that it is a hack of some sort. OK, so my tweet count has been reset, so what? So a lot – tweet count is like your notes, your hardwork and a first glance number which shows your seriousness on Twitter, my decisionmaking to follow or not to follow is also based on number of tweets.
The wonder game is getting interesting:
Is it that someone just decided to have fun?
Is it that someone just decided that somewhere the circle is not getting completed?
is it that my twitter status triggered a bug which automatically reduced me to 10%?
I have no answers yet, but the amount of love and regard I have for Twitter is nudging me to to go ahead and help Twitter understand my problem and solve it. I am sure they would.
Facebook, Friend Feed, Twitter and… August 11, 2009

I am glad that FB has acquired FF, to me they are exactly doing things which would further mess them around.
Facts:
1. I gave up on FB about few months back when Twitterization of FB started.
2. FF was never my favorite as it always looked liked inspired by Twitter.
3. Twitter to me is my home on the web
With my stand stated so early in the post here I go with why I believe what FB is doing may make them another damsel in distress:
I have been living on the internet since 1996, I have seen many pineapples trying to be become apples and many blueberries trying hard to become strawberries and I have seen them being thrown into dustbins by the “Hybrid Masters”
I always feel that if AltaVista had remained AltaVista and not tried to become Yahoo, Web search would have looked different today. But AltaVista wanted to look like Yahoo, like FB desires to look like Twitter.
I always feel that if MSN had allowed Hotmail to be Hotmail and not be carried away by Yahoo Mail and later by GMail, the email space would have looked different. But Microsoft wanted Hotmail to be fresh like Yahoo Mail, like FB desires to be be Twitter fresh.
I always feel that if Yahoo had remained Yahoo and not tried to become like AOL, the web would have been different and let us not talk about if AOL would have remained or evolved around AOL how the world would have looked different today.
The same pattern has been followed by many winners and torchbearers to write their path to failure, I see FB doing exactly the same, playing with the core.
AltaVista, AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, Google Videos, Picasa… the list is endless and with Facebook working hard to look and feel like Twitter – the clock is ticking.
(Of course I don’t expect Twitter to blink and start looking like Facebook, but I really want TwitPic to start looking and feeling like TwitSnaps)
Trendophobia on Twitter August 9, 2009

Twitter has made my dear colleague Ajit @KNAjit an inventor, he has invented the word Trendophobia. After MJ passed away and started trending on Twitter, Ajit and many others (yours truly included) started giving more attention to Trending Topics on Twitter. This was an unexpected outcome of an unexpected demise.
Ajit mentioned to me that he of the opinion that many including him have started suffering from a Trending Topic disorder. Whenever they see some celebrities name on the trending topics list of Twitter the mind goes the other way and starts looking out for obituaries. I would not say it is misplaced and I may not fully agree with Ajit, that the feeling is global and universal.
To get an answer I am doing this brief blog post and I would like to know your opinion about Ajit’s analysis and invention.
You may commnuicate to me @simarp on Twitter directly
The Cabuliwallah – Remembered August 8, 2009

Thakur Rabindranath Tagore’s stories have a huge pullback factor built in – you just can’t go away from the stories which you have read once. There is not even a single story which I have not read multiple times.
All of us who have read The Cabuliwallah as part of our school curriculum would be able to visually draw him on a piece of paper the pen-picture of the central character is so strong and so is the picture of Mini and “the father”. Every time I read the story and reach towards the end, I am reminded how much a single hundred Rupee note was worth. I wonder, if I was “the father” what would have I done, I am sure I would have too gone ahead with the marriage without “Electric Lights” & “Military Band” Absolutely. What I really love about this short story is the connect between values and relationships and how easily they are sewn together in this masterpiece.
The story has once again left me wondering, did Rehman get to see his daughter? Did she recognize him? Was he able to build a relationship with her of the kind he had with Mini. O Cabuliwallah! Cabuliwallah!

We have been excited before but this excitement has a special flavor – the flavor of being the first one to get it going. It is always good to be part of the curve or amongst first movers – being the first mover gives you a different high all-together, We are experiencing this extraordinary feeling. This feeling is pushing us closer to developing the next game changer in the global sphere.
TwiHotels just didn’t happen, it is a result and a biproduct of an year long active involvement and commitment to Twitter. (The project was conceptualized when I was at 2500 tweets, launched when I was at 3600) We think tweeting a lot has had a lot to do with the way TwiHotels got going. Our first Twitter project marked the ground for us, the second project was the blueprint, the third foundation and the fourth one is a building with an impressive outlook and an aggressive growth profile. With 500 Tweets under its belt and Google search lapping it up, TwiHotels is all set to change the landscape forever for hotel queries and lead generation.
We are aware TwiHotels launch has triggered development of hundreds of serious applications on these lines -
We are thrilled

I was out, out from the WordPress for too long, fortunate me – I didn’t loose my way. Twitter has been keeping me busy. I had fallen in love with Tweeting long back, now I am obsessed with thinking and leading the development of applications over Twitter.
Twitter has truly changed my world. it has changed my working hours, eating habits and development preference. In last 6 months – Compare Infobase has gone ahead and invested a sizeable chunk of its own money in becoming part of TwitterVerse.
UURL.in http://uurl.in was the first one to roll out, with over 300,000 URLs shortened UURL has become perfect. The site has been used by over a million souls successfully.
TwitSnaps http://twitsnaps.com We were not the first one to roll out a photograph sharing website over Twitter, however the day we rolled out we were the smartest service with the best product . TwitSnaps has done wonderfully well and we expect it have over a million photographs in less than a year. It now also has a video section to it.
TweeCT http://TweeCT.com is a local Twitter Community Builder application. It is a directory of Twitter users in aprticular geography. The site is currently alpha and picking up
The response to http://TwiHotels.com – TwiHotels has been impressive. you can check the queries @twihotel – Looks like this project would go places and very quickly
With the fourth roll-out done – I am happy. Compare Infobase is now a fully committed and integrated member of Twitter World and also a full facility development center for Twitter applications
More to come..
